Captain Noah and His Floating Zoo
Come along and join in the fun!
Cavatina Singers` concert on Saturday, March 7th in support of the NSPCC and Childline was a sell-out success. The packed audience at Sully Old School were treated to a programme of light music including songs by Vaughan Williams and Aaron Copeland and featuring the fantastically witty and lighthearted cantata, "Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo" by Michael Flanders and Joseph Horovitz. The choir was joined by the immensely talented young baritone, Michael Lowe who delighted the audience with his selection of Vaughan Williams songs in the first half of the programme and his tremedously stirring rendition of "Antiphon" from Vaughan Williams` "Five Mystiacl Songs". In the second half, Michael joined Cavatina as the soloist in "Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo" and absolutely brought the piece to life. Michael, from Chepstow, is currently studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama,in Cardiff, however, he is equally at home in opera and musiacl theatre. His musical theatre credits include Captain Von Trapp in "The Sound of Music" and Javert in "Les Miserables". At the end of the evening, musical director, James Bingham was able to present Mrs. Pam Bridgewater with a cheque for £230 for the NSPCC. Pam was particularly thrilled to receive this donation as chairman of the Sully branch of the NSPCC as it is seventy years this year that Mrs Yeld Stevens, late of Nicells, Cog Road commenced her support of the NSPCC in Sully. If you missed the concert on Saturday, you will have another chance to see Cavatina Singers perform "Captain Noah" as part of their Summer concert on Saturday, June 6th at Albert Road Methodist Church Penarth. Before that, the choir will be taking part in the Dinas Powys Music Festival on Wednesday, 13th May.
